I haven't done this in a while, so I am just reaching out to yaz to see if you have any insight. I am selling my car to myself. It has been under a previous company name but we have dissolved that business so it needs a new owner. Me. What is the best way to do this in SoCal? Should I sell it to myself for $1 or should I put the market value on it or what? I want to avoid taxes, if at all possible, and I don't want to somehow "total" my car if I put too low a value on it... if that's even possible.
Thoughts? Thanks in advance. Here's something special for your troubles. Super Cheetah!!!:
*UPDATE- SOLD!!! ...TO MYSELF. I NOW OWN MY CAR. DMV NEVER PICKED UP THE PHONE, BUT THEY WERE VERY HELPFUL AND GOT ME OUT OF THERE IN ONE VISIT.*

I recommend just turning yourself in for tax evasion now.

just call the dmv and ask. Ill bet they will allow a title transfer without a bill of sale for a title fee

I'm hoping to go over there tomorrow, I just want to avoid something like "Hey, I'm selling my car to myself for a dollar!" "That'll be fine sir, but the insurance will total it if you do." "Oh, OK, then $12k." "YOU ARE A BIG FAT LIAR, GET OUT OF MY DMV!"

Give them a call and ask, and don't give your real details if they ask for any. Then you'll know what not to ask when you're there.

call first, save yourself the trouble. No faces no names, no lines. Then when you are confident bring everything you need and several boxes of papers and i.d. more and head over

That's a great plan, but I anticipate no one picking up the phone... We'll see.

You've good taste in cars! Mine's a few years older but it makes up for the years with the mileage. Is that beauty a manual?
Sorry, I'm no help with the ownership transfer questions.

Your company may be able to gift the car to you tax free. Also I've never had any issues with the $1 purchase. In reality you should have no issues transferring the title as you are just changing the name on the title to someone who exists and not a now dissolved company that you owned.
